Onwards and upwards!
So ruddy-faced from today’s cold and blustery walk and a large glass of red wine to give me some Dutch courage for posting to the blog, I have been reflecting on the last few weeks.
I can’t deny that the classroom management session unsettled me. I ran a girl guide unit for over 10 years and I had flash backs to the scenes of utter chaos as the girls, half-way between being kids and adults, almost didn’t know where to put themselves and their behaviour. Rambunctious doesn’t come near it and I have nightmares that this will happen in class. The best sessions were when they could give up being adults and just be kids lighting fires and doing craft.
I am worried that my age makes me so far out of reach of what’s cool nowadays for teenagers, I haven’t got a clue. But then again I suppose it’s about being authentic. The kids can always teach me.
So I am taking advantage of the lull this week to think and am in
Shropshire near Church Stretton. Today I went up Long Mynd and had the cobwebs blown away by the wind, snow, sunshine and amazing views. I find walking clears your brain and gives you a different perspective. You look behind and realise how far you have come.
I know that we will all have each other’s backs with ideas, encouragement and support. We will all be taking it day by day, lesson by lesson. And this I think is where the penny dropped for me. For many years I have been making my own way, keeping my fingers crossed that I have been doing the right thing. Now I, and all of us, will be supporting each other and have support behind us. Onwards and upwards!
