First week :)
Week 1 pt. 1
We arrived at our flat in Moncada to find the red carpet Schola had clearly laid out for us ๐ but I cannot complain about our commute as it is only 2 doors down! The location is brilliant, less than 10 minutes to the Mercadona and 5 minutes to Bar el musical (our favourite).
It has been a mission settling in to the Spanish timetable as I only start teaching at 5pm and finish at 9pm. With not living at home anymore, I have found it hard to eat properly (mainly bocadillos and pasta๐) and not go out for food all the time, especially when it’s not good food. But it has been amazing getting to know everyone and the Spaniards are very friendly - but maybe not a few of the locals who handed us erotic poetry…
That said, the teachers, and students especially, are lovely at Schola, and although I feel more like the TA at the moment, I’m excited to get stuck in and teach lessons I have prepared.
Week 1 pt. 2
Venturing into Valencia has to be the highlight of the week.
The city is beautiful, and we could not have come at a better time to witness the start of Las Fallas. The noise in the centre was incredible and we must’ve been shouting for at least 5 minutes after as we were almost deafened by the sound of the fire crackers. Finally some good food followed the event - a quaint Italian restaurant and a Reina pizza (for a queen…what else ๐) for only 7€ was a bargain. Exactly what we needed to cure our hangover ๐. The bars are great fun with some having live music for us to sing along to. The best drink is the ‘Agua de Valencia’ cava, gin, orange juice and sugar - served in a cup bigger than my head.
The Flamenco class on the beach was great fun. I would, however, love to have done it in better weather and not so hungover. But I can’t complain, it was great fun and the teacher spoke English which is always a bonus! I clearly need to improve my Spanish as when I talk, they immediately reply in English, to which my response is: En Espaรฑol por favor ๐… sometimes it’s good and we have a nice conversation, but other times I immediately regret it as I have no clue what they’re saying.
I hope that week 2 brings more laughs and teaching, and hopefully not being run over by that mad Spanish drivers :))
